BHUTAN ROYALTY FREE ZONE
As per the decision of the 1st Meeting of the Tourism Council of Bhutan, Samdrup Jongkhar and Gelephu have been approved as royalty free zones both for entry and exit for transit purposes only w.e.f. 1st May 2010.
The following conditions will apply:
- Transit means one night halt each for entry and exit.
- Halts longer than one night will not be considered as transit and the royalty will apply for the duration of the halt.
- Royalty free means that only the royalty is waived, the balance payment will have to be deposited with the secretariat, TCB as per rules. This will apply for all royalty free zones including Phuentsholing, which will continue as per existing regulations for one way only (Either entry OR exit).
- To avail of the royalty waiver the tourists have to be hosted in TCB approved accommodation within municipal boundaries.
BHUTAN RANKED NO. 3 IN WANDURLUST TRAVEL AWARDS 2010
Bhutan is ranked No. 3 in the Wanderlust Travel awards 2010, as the top emerging destination of the World.
This new category for the 2010, rewarded countries that received fewer visitors but which wowed those who did visit.
In 2009, the Tourism Council of Bhutan received a certificate from the Wanderlust Travel magazine awarding Bhutan the finalist “Top Country 2009” for the Wanderlust travel awards. Bhutan was one of the top 10 finalists for the Wanderlust Travel Awards and in 2005; Bhutan won the Silver award from the Wanderlust Travel Awards for the “Top Country”.
