To order to travel to Bhutan: the visitors has the option to travel either by Drukair or overland through a town of Phuentsholing which is in southern Bhutan that borders an Indian state of West Bengal. Drukair, the national carrier operates and offers services to and from Delhi, Bangkok, Kathmandu, Kolkotta, Dhaka and Singapore. There is another airline, Tashi Air which operates to and from Bangkok, Kolkota, Kathmandu and Delhi.
For those visitors who are entering into Bhutan after visiting Sikkim and Darjeeling in India, an overland route from Phuentsholing is more convenient. Another exit point is through the border town of Samdrupjongkhar which is on the south eastern part of the country and it is convinient for travellers who wish to visit and explore the eastern part without taking the same lateral route back to Paro. The visitors can take the flight to their onward destination from Gauhati in India which is about 2 hrs driving time from Samdrupjongkhar.
Bhutan visa is arranged only through the registered Bhutan tour operators and no other foreign agencies as well as embassies can issue the visa. Only afterthe tour is booked and full payment has been made, the visa will be processed by the tour operator which usually take 2 -3 working days. A visa confirmation letter which acts as provisional visa will be sent in advance and it should be carried and shown to the airport on arrival and the actual visa will be stamped on the passport.
A scanned copy of passport is required for processing of visa which should be sent to the tour operator well ahead in advance.
